March 23 Happy Birthday to ME :)I picked up my birthday present to myself yesterday and am thrilled with it! Check out my new fountain with a canoe that is now sitting serenely on my desk (along with my lovely orchids). The guy (Charles Kern - see link) makes each one out of lava rock from California. He is so enthusiastic and super nice - just great to see someone doing something they totally love to do and making a living too. His prices are reasonable for handmade stuff, so CHECK HIM OUT if you are in the Tri-State area.
March 22 DC with Mel & Char :)Last weekend I celebrated my birthday in DC. I saw this funny typo at the Philadelphia train station while entertaining my hanger-on that I picked up in Conshohocken. He followed me all over the station - to pick up the tickets, waited outside the bathroom, came to the store while I got my National Geographic (a tradition whenever I travel) and even to get cappuccino. I was happy that there were only single seats left so I didn't have to talk to him all the way to DC! I had a great time and a lovely visit with Mel and Charlotte despite the eventful evening. After we had yummy gourmet pizza, we made a spice cake and watched a movie (more yum!). On our way to go out dancing though, we got rear-ended. Turned out to be a kid without a license who had stolen his parent's car, so it was quite the scene, but thank goodness no one was hurt and even the car is OK. We decided to try dancing anyway, but it was really weird. We didn't know this crowd's Rueda calls and there seemed to be an abnormal percentage of strange men there. The most excruciating part was the music - some kind of bastardized Salsa - stripped of it's flavour and left with a cheesy pop-like sound... it was horrible. Oh well, we got a good night's sleep and then had brunch at a great place that had live music. I just happened to catch the bass player watching the soccer game while jamming (he he). The trees were in bloom and it seemed that my birthday really would usher in the Spring season this year (Unlike when I was in Yellowknife!). Oh, and I love the print in their living room, so I just HAD to take a picture of the picture. There are more on the Kodak website (click on "Jennifer's Pictures"). My neglected blog...I have neglected my blog for a while - Sorry! Still settling in here in Pennsylvania - we have pictures up in most rooms, but still waiting for my living room furniture that I ordered. I am just starting to look into the whole car thing. It is just such a long painful process and for someone who doesn't like either cars or shopping - ugh! Here is a picture of my favourite spot to eat breakfast where the sun streams into the kitchen in the morning. We had a few days of really warm weather two weeks ago and it was definitely time to break out the bikes. How do you like my lovely fluorescent vest? Oh and the flowers are already starting to come up. This was our first crocus and the daffodils are just about to open. March 02 North by NorthwestAhhh, I have found another Salsa venue that I really like. I had a fun time yesterday evening and uh danced for over four hours - hee hee. I knew it was time to go when I felt blisters on the bottom of both feet and the heel of my jazz shoes came half off. I liked the atmosphere and it was super easy to get to with parking in behind. Of course, Jonathan knew the DJ - who was very sweet and friendly. The only drawback is the odd smoker in the room... I wonder if Philly/PA will ever pass no smoking legislation????? There was a small beginner lesson at around 7:30pm and then another lesson around 9ish. It was not crowded at all, but by about 10:30pm the die hard Salseros started to arrive and there were plenty of people to dance with. Had dinner with my coworker, Jonathan, and the food was pretty good too. It could definitely be my regular Wednesday Salsa thing along with every other Sat at the Atrium in NJ. |
